The house is not within a Conservation Area, however it sits within a prestigious residential area. A late 1920s house had already been extended on both sides. The previous extension had been plagued with repeated construction problems concerned with leakage and differential movement. At first floor level the house had fake timber frame applied to the existing extensions. The proposal was for a more substantially built rear extension. The form decided on was a simple modern one. The white render is a special proprietary one which has silicone in it to help avoid cracking. We used oak internal finishes to doors, windows and skirtings, and a high maintenance aluminium to the exterior. The design included a patio and barbecue store and new trellises and planters.
